Candles on the Cobb 2025

Monday 25th August 2025

Lyme Regis came together for a truly moving evening as 5,000 tea light candles illuminated the Cobb in memory of loved ones last night.

The afternoon began with joy and music as Lyme Regis Town Band and Lyme Morris entertained crowds along the seafront. Later, Mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Philip Evans, lit the very first candle, joined by David Sarson, president of the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, who organised this year's event. They were followed by Phil Street and Mike Higgs, who first imagined this special tradition back in 2000, Nicola and Scott Quinnell who donated the candles and Holly Payne, lighting a candle on behalf of The Slipway, one of the event’s main sponsors.

As dusk fell, emotion filled the air. Volunteer teams from across the community — including Lym Valley Scouts, Charmouth Scouts, Lyme Regis RNLI, Sailing Club, Lyme Rib Rides, Gig Club and Powerboat Club — worked together to bring the Cobb to life. One by one, the candles flickered into brightness until the harbour was bathed in a breathtaking sea of light, a poignant tribute to cherished memories and a shining example of community spirit.

All proceeds from the event will be distributed between Prostate Cancer UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and local good causes.
