Morris Sides Shine on a Sweltering Day of Dance 2026

Sunday 12th July 2026

A fabulous day of Morris dancing was enjoyed yesterday at the Lyme Morris Day of Dance in Lyme Regis, despite the sweltering summer heat.

The event began with a colourful procession of Morris sides along the seafront, drawing the attention of residents and visitors alike as dancers, musicians and supporters made their starting at Cobb Gate and ending outside the Jubilee Pavilion. The spectacle provided a lively start to what proved to be a wonderful celebration of one of England's oldest folk traditions.

Throughout the afternoon, Morris sides from across the UK performed at various locations around the seafront, entertaining appreciative crowds with an impressive variety of dances, music and distinctive costumes. From energetic stick and hankie dances to traditional tunes played on melodeons, accordions and other folk instruments, there was something to delight audiences of all ages.

The sweltering temperatures made for challenging conditions, but the dancers showed remarkable enthusiasm and stamina, continuing to perform with energy and good humour throughout the day. Many spectators sought the shade where they could, while others enjoyed ice creams and cold drinks as they watched the performances unfold against the backdrop of Lyme Bay.

The festival once again demonstrated the enduring appeal of Morris dancing, bringing together sides from across the country to celebrate a rich cultural heritage in one of Dorset's most picturesque seaside settings. It was a day filled with music, colour and tradition, enjoyed by performers and audiences alike.

Well done to Lyme Morris for organising the event and Love Lyme Regis were delighted to support the event as sponsors, alongside Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival and Lyme Regis Brewery.
