Local voluntary group Lyme Heartbeat held a defibrillator awareness and CPR training session at Woodmead Halls yesterday. First responders and Lyme Heartbeat volunteers Virgil Turner and Chris Hutchings gave a brief introductory presentation before attendees had the opportunity to learn how to perform CPR.

The use of a defibrillator and CPR within the first few minutes of someone having a cardiac arrest can improve the chances of the patient surviving significantly.

Lyme Heartbeat was set up to raise funds for the installation of a network of publicly accessible defibrillators throughout Lyme Regis. The organisation currently looks after 11 units with more planned to be installed in the near future.
