Sun kissed skies and a wonderful display of creativity set the scene for yesterday’s Easter Bonnet Parade in Lyme Regis. The afternoon began at the Baptist Church’s Pine Hall, where 70 entrants across various age groups gathered for judging.
Ben Matthews of Dorset and Devon Holiday Cottages took on the challenging role of judge, carefully considering each bonnet and taking time to chat with participants. The standard was impressively high, with many imaginative designs on show. Vouchers kindly donated by Lyme Regis Bookshop, were presented as prizes by the Mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Philip Evans MBE. Each entrant received a consolation prize provided by Ben.
The adult category, as always, proved especially competitive, with AJ Hutchings taking the top prize.
At 3pm, the parade set off down Broad Street, led by the brilliant Lyme Regis Majorettes, while Lyme Morris brought up the rear, delighting the crowds.
The event was organised by the Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival team with chairman Alan Vian commenting "It was wonderful to see so many brilliant Easter bonnet creations and a great crowd turn out to watch the parade. I'd like to thank all those who took part, Lyme Regis Majorettes and Lyme Morris, our volunteers and our road closure team for ensuring the event was a big success".
