Drawn to the Water is set to make waves in Lyme Regis as five accomplished artists come together to present their collective vision of the Jurassic Coastline. This captivating exhibition features artwork, printed textiles, fused glass and mapmaking, showcasing the diverse talents of Alex Boon, Bryony Lamb, Anna Brewster, Trevor Hunt, and the sustainable creations of Tideline Prints.
Alex Boon an artist and nature journaling educator from Seaton, shares his meticulous exploration of the Undercliffs National Nature Reserve. Over the past year, Alex has diligently mapped and sketched the reserve, drawing inspiration from John Ogilby’s historic ‘Britannia’ strip maps of 1685. The result is a trio of intricately rendered maps in coloured pencil, seamlessly merging route descriptions and nature observations in an innovative new style.
Bryony Lamb, inspired by the geological wonders and marine life of the Jurassic Coast, creates fused glass pieces that delve into the magical interplay between colours, metals, and organic inclusions like pressed seaweed. This true alchemy produces captivating effects and intricate textures in both her functional and decorative works of art.
Anna Brewster, an expressive mixed-media landscape artist working from the Umborne Bridge Studio in Colyton, infuses her passion for the Jurassic Coastline into her creations. Sketching on location, Anna captures the energy of the natural environment, resulting in vibrant and evocative works that portray the coastal landscape.
Trevor Hunt draws inspiration from the powerful and majestic sea, as well as the serene tranquility of the South West’s inland estuaries. Through his art, he explores the beauty of colour and its impact on emotions.
Tideline Prints is a small coastal studio with a unique focus on block printing using marine debris salvaged from local beaches. With sustainability at the forefront, Karen Bowskill transforms waste into stunning hand-printed bags and accessories.
The exhibition runs from Monday 13 May until Thursday 23 May and is open daily from 10am until 4:30pm. Entry is free of charge.
