Photos and Paintings : Pete Hackett

Thursday 6th November 2025 - Wednesday 12th November 2025
10:00 - 16:00

Local enfant terrible Pete Hackett returns to the Malthouse Gallery this autumn to showcase his Benchmark series. This year’s show incorporates some of the images from Lyme sea front and a new set of paintings.

After gaining a Fine Arts degree in the 70’s, Pete Hackett set about making a living, not from art but by becoming an events technician. Travelling the world with work there was always a camera on hand to record images and ideas. Throughout his life, he has always exhibited his photos and occasionally, transferred ideas into actual pieces.

Seaside observational photography really began for Pete in the 80’s after his parents retired to Lyme Regis. This has been a constant, but with the broad audience on the internet, his observational photography has taken a turn in popularity.

Pete continues to find inspiration in just about anything - the people on the seafront, the accidental art, the decaying paint and buildings. It’s all around you - you just need to see it, or let Pete recreate it for you in the gallery space.

The exhibition runs from Thursday 6 until Wednesday 12 November and is open daily from 10am until 4pm. Entry is free of charge.
