VE Day 75 Lyme Regis

Dates for next event to be confirmed

When VE Day dawns on 8th May 2020 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Events will take place across the country on the weekend of May 8th to 10th to commemorate the Second World War Victory in Europe Day and the 75th anniversary will provide an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark and terrifying period.

Various events are planned throughout the weekend in Lyme Regis to mark the 75th anniversary, although plans are still to be finalised, they are expected to include the lighting of the town beacon on the North Wall, a cry for peace around the world by town crier Alan Vian, and the church bells ringing out for peace, an over 75s tea party and a big band performing at the Marine Theatre.

The commemorations and celebrations will culminate with a Sunday morning service at St Michael’s Parish Church, followed by wreath laying at the town’s war memorial.
