Lyme Regis Foodbank is supporting 129 local school children and their families this Christmas by providing festive hampers to help ease financial pressures during the holiday season.
Children who would benefit from extra support were identified by The Woodroffe School, Mrs Ethelston’s Primary School, St Michael’s Primary School and Charmouth Primary School.
Each hamper was packed with everything a family needs for Christmas Day, helping households enjoy the festive period with dignity and peace of mind.
This morning staff from The Woodroffe School collected hampers for distribution to the families identified for support.
Sue Davies, chair of Lyme Regis Foodbank, said:
“This is now our sixth year of undertaking our Christmas hampers project and we are keen to support children and their families identified by local schools as being in need of some assistance.
“The demand for support was high, but thanks to help from local organisations — including a sizeable grant from the Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival Committee, the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, and the generosity of local individuals, businesses and our fantastic team of volunteers — all the requests for support were met.”
Sue added:
“We would also like to thank the wonderful team at Ammonite Removals, Clearance & Storage along with N&G Groundworks, The Old Fudge Shop in Broad Street, Lyme Regis Community Support, Brown and Brown and Anton's Butchers in Colyton for their incredible support, which is really appreciated.
“We hope the festive hampers make an enormous difference during the Christmas period, helping to alleviate financial pressures and allowing people to celebrate the season rather than simply existing through it.”
