Young voices rang out across Lyme Regis as children took part in the Lyme Regis Carnival Week Junior Town Crier Competition 2026, competing for the chance to be crowned this year’s Junior Town Crier.
Hosted by Lyme Regis Town Crier Alan Vian, who has proudly held the town crier role since 2012, the competition gave youngsters the opportunity to step into his shoes for the day.
Dressed in traditional town crier attire complete with tricorn hat, red waistcoat and jabot, the young contestants took to the performance area to deliver their very own scripted “cry”, complete with the all-important ringing of the bell.
There was plenty of enthusiasm, confidence and character on display as each contestant did their best to project their voice and capture the spirit of this much-loved Lyme Regis tradition.
The competition was a wonderful opportunity for children to experience a little piece of Lyme’s heritage and, who knows, perhaps inspire the next generation of town criers!
Congratulations to all the children who took part in the 2026 Junior Town Crier Competition, and a special well done to this year’s winner, who can now proudly claim the title of Lyme Regis Junior Town Crier 2026.
