The sandy beach at Lyme Regis was cordoned off this afternoon after suspected ordnance was discovered and the bomb squad were called in.
HM Coastguard, Lyme Regis Fire Crew, the Police and Lyme Regis Town Council were in attendance to ensure public safety with an exclusion zone encompassing part of the seafront and gardens.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were deployed to safely remove the object which was confirmed by Lyme Regis Coastguard to be a live, .50 caliber projectile. The round was slightly deformed, presenting a potential risk to the public.
The beach has now reopened.
