Literary icon Jane Austen’s book Persuasion is being adapted by streaming giant Netflix for a feature-length film starring Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson. On Tuesday 15th June 2021 a production crew descended on Lyme Regis to film scenes along the famous Cobb harbour wall.

'Persuasion' was published in 1817, six months after Austen's death and has been adapted for the screen multiple times. Netflix said the latest adaptation takes a modern, witty approach to a beloved story while remaining true to Jane Austen's classic novel.

The area adjacent to the Marine Aquarium on the Cobb was closed off to the public on Tuesday as filming continued throughout the day.

Dakota Johnson, playing protagonist Anne Elliot, was seen in character on the Cobb wall along with actor Cosmo Jarvis in period attire.

Netflix has previously announced that acclaimed theatre director Carrie Cracknell will make her feature directorial debut with the movie with Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow set to adapt the novel for new age audiences.

The film is expected to premiere in 2022.
