The Lepers' Well is located off the lynch in what was formerly known as the Fountain Garden. The well is reached by a footbridge over the River Lym from the path that runs from Mill Green to the Town Mill.
The well is in fact a spring, once thought to have curative properties. Now Grade II listed, the well is said to date from the 14th century or earlier and to be the only remaining structure of a medieval lepers' hospital. However, although there was a medieval lepers' hospital in the town, it was situated some distance away in Broad Street and the current structure built from blue lias rectangular block and limestone with a round-headed barrel vaulted recess is unlikely to be older than 18th century.
