Special Somers Day Parade Celebrates 30 Years of Lyme Regis and St George's in Bermuda Twinning

Lyme Regis marked a special Somers Day yesterday with a commemorative parade celebrating the 30th anniversary of the twinning between Lyme Regis and St George's in Bermuda.

The parade was attended by distinguished guests from both sides of the Atlantic, including Quinell Francis, the Mayor of the Town of St. George, Bermuda, Ed Christopher, Town Crier for the City of Hamilton in Bermuda, the Mayor and Mayoress of Lyme Regis, Alan Vian, Town Crier of Lyme Regis, local MP Edward Morello, Phil Street, the chairman of the Lyme Regis/St George's Twinning Association and other civic dignitaries.

Proceedings began at 11:30am with a parade to the Sir George Somers statue before continuing along the historic Cobb Harbour. The procession passed the RNLI Lifeboat Station, which this year celebrates 200 years of lifesaving service in Lyme Regis.

At midday, guests and spectators gathered on Victoria Pier, at the end of the Cobb, for a commemoration ceremony. The event honoured Sir George Somers' enduring connection with both Lyme Regis and Bermuda, while celebrating three decades of friendship and cultural ties between the twin towns.

The ceremony brought together residents, visitors and honoured guests to reflect on the shared history linking the two communities and to reaffirm the strong relationship that continues to flourish today.
