Candles on the Cobb takes place Sunday 28th August 2022.
The spectacular and profoundly moving event sees thousands of candles light up the iconic Cobb harbour in memory of loved ones.
Founded by friends Phil Street and Mike Higgs, the Cobb was first covered with thousands of tea lights in 2000. Following their decision to stand down in 2015, running of the event was taken on by The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis.
Candles on the Cobb draws huge crowds to the town with onlookers lining the seafront and viewing from Langmoor and Lister Gardens above.
Members of the public are invited to sponsor candles in memory of loved ones with over £140,000 raised for local groups and national charities since the event’s inception. This year 50% of proceeds will go to local youth projects, 25% to British Red Cross and 25% to Cancer Research UK.
In addition to lighting the Cobb, the last event held in 2018 saw a giant poppy on the sandy beach illuminated to commemorate the centenary year since the ending of WWI. This year hundreds of candles will be arranged on the sandy beach in the shape of a crown to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
You can purchase your candles online via the Candles on the Cobb website. Numbers are restricted to 5,000 so it's advisable to get yours early to avoid disappointment.
