Lyme Regis Blessing of the Boats 2024

The annual Blessing of the Boats service today which acknowledges the lives of those lost at sea while blesses all those who go to sea professionally or for leisure.

Lyme Regis RNLI, the Royal British Legion, Lyme Regis Coastguard, Lyme Regis Sailing Club, Blue Tits sea swimmers, powerboat and gig clubs are represented.

During the service Leo Adamson-Drage read out a poem entitled 'What the sea means to me'.

Lyme Bay Moonrakers performed two sea shanties to open the service. Music was provided by Lyme Regis Town Band.

The service concluded with wreaths being taken to be laid at sea by the lifeboat crew to commemorate those lost at sea but also to celebrate ‘relief and gratitude’ for lifeboat crews, coastguards and helicopter crews, all of whom have saved many lives.
